Aykley Heads XC – 18th November 2017

Thanks to Ann-Marie Shield for the following race report:

My first Wednesday run with Ponteland runners everyone was going on about the start of the cross country season coming up, “its great fun and the hot chocolate and cakes more than make up for the mud”… hmmmm I wasn’t convinced. Mud plus cold plus hills did not sound very fun and I thought everyone was plain crazy! I certainly didn’t think 2 months later I would be rocking up to Aykley heads with spikes in hand ready to run.

Go Tri Ponteland #4 – 12th July 2017

Well we had an absolutely fantastic turnout last night for our last Go Tri of the year. We were sold out with 70 participants registered to take part and actually had 65 participants on the night, a record for us. We had to make transition a bit bigger to accommodate the extra bikes!

The weather was perfect; sunshine, not a lot of wind and 16C, you couldn’t ask for better conditions. We had a lot of first time triathletes again last night, 22 according to my list and I apologise for not mentioning you all in our race briefing. With us at full capacity, I was a bit short of time as I had to get you started as near to 19:05 as I could. Well done to all our novices, I know there were quite a few nerves before the event but you all did brilliantly. the feedback I got from several of you was that you loved it!

Another thing I forgot to mention last night was to thank our brilliant marshals without whom these events could not take place. I know you will all join me in giving them a massive (virtual) round of aplause for their support of these events. Well done all marshals, you were fantastic!!!

Here are the results from last night, well done to allparticipants.

Lastly, some of you got an extra little treat in your goody bags for some extra special effort, smiles, encouragement etc so well done you if you got a bag of sweets 🙂

That’s the last of our events for this year but we will be back in 2018 for more Go Tri’s.

Go Tri Ponteland #3 – 28th June 2017

Well it was inevitable at some point in time that our good luck with the weather for Go Tri’s was going to change and it certainly did last night. The forecast was for heavy rain and 16mph northerly wind and 11C, not what you’d expect for mid summer, more like winter! With that forecast we had a lot of no shows which was no surprise however, we still had 26 participants and plenty of marshals to cheer and encourage people on.

Go Tri #2- 7th June

We were very lucky with the weather again! The 2 days prior had been heavy rain and the day of the event was gale force winds. Luckily the sun was shining and the wind had dropped but it was still quite breezy and cold (especially for the marshals).42 participants took part with a record breaking 18 first time triathletes and 3 juniors too.

Everyone was enthusiatic and some nervous before the start but everyone had a fantastic time and there were some good sprint finishes for the finish line.

The result are below. Well done to Darren McBain from Muckle CC Tri Team who was 1st for the men and to Louise Watson who was first for the ladies.

Well done to all the participants and we hope to see you see you at the next one on 28th June. Keep spreading the word to friends, family and colleagues, there’s still lots of spaces available at the moment.

Don’t forget to check out our facebook page for the photos and feel free to tag yourself.

Go Tri Ponteland #1 24th May 2017

Well what a perfect night for our first Go Tri of the year, the sun was shining and it was the hottest day of the year so far. 42 participants took part and for 8, this was their first ever triathlon so there were a few nerves around but the freindly marshals were around to help them out.

It’s always great to see a mix of abilities taking part in these events so along with the novices we had some nice TT bikes and pointy helmets on show of the really fast guys and girls using this as a nice little bit of training and I was certainly impressed by some of the fast mounting and dismounting, not that I’ll be trying any of that as it would definitely end up in injury!

Well done to everyone who took part and especially to all the marshals without whom , these events could not take place. Remember the next one is less than two weeks away on 7th June

Photos from the event can be found on the ponteland runners facebook page.
