Club Championship 2014

Ponteland Runners 2014 Club Championship

This is the second running of the club championship.  There have been some changes to the structure, intended to encourage participation in some of the best races in the region.  The competition will this year only feature six races, run between May and September and at distances between 5.9 miles and about half marathon.

HOW IT WORKS?

We have identified 6 races being run during the summer of 2014.  Club members who run in these races will get points based upon their finishing time and adjusted – under a well established system known as WMA  – for age and gender.  The runner’s best 4 scores are added together and the winner will be the person with the highest score.  If it sounds complicated, don’t worry it isn’t and all will be revealed as the season goes on.  The choice of races means that someone will be able to achieve the four qualifying races without running further than 7 miles.  Entry to the club championship is automatic and free.  Just run.  Updates will be produced after each of the races.

QUALIFYING RACES (details of all can be found on www.northeastraces.com ).  The club reserve the right to add or change qualifying races if any of these races are cancelled or entry is judged to be too difficult (this last point led us to exclude the Bridges of the Tyne race).

1. 11 May Pier to Pier approx. 7 miles

2. 9 June Blaydon Race 5.9 miles

3. 18 June  Newburn Riverside 6.5 miles

4.  2 July Tynedale 10K

5.  20 July Coastal Run approx Half Marathon

6.  7 September Great North Run Half Marathon

THE PRIZES

The overall winner will receive the club championship trophy, to retain for one year, as well as £30 Start Fitness vouchers. There will be vouchers for the person finishing second and a draw for vouchers for all those who complete four or more of the qualifying races, excluding those who finish first and second in the competition. So, there are chances to win however quick you are.

THE SMALL PRINT

The competition is only open to paid up, first claim members of Ponteland Runners.

In the unlikely event of a tie at the end of the competition, the Committee’s decision is final, as it is if we need to tweak the rules in light of experience.
