First time relay participant Theo Fourie gives us a race report on the Gosforth Summer relays.
Ponteland Runners joined Gosforth Harriers for their second annual summer relay at Newcastle Great Park on Sunday morning.
There was a great turnout from the club with 2 junior members and 5 teams of 3 senior runners and, after some motivational words by Matty Bell (Editor note – must have missed that bit!), the teams were ready to head down the quick 2-mile route around the estate. With the weather holding up and with great support from fellow runners, our team consisting of James Leiper (11:37), Rob Holt (11:18) and Paul O’Neil (11:49) manage to place overall 4th position with a time of 34:44 behind Sunderland Harriers, Gosforth Harriers and Tyne Bridge Harriers. Our other teams manage to secure the 8th, 10th, 15th, 23rd and 24th positions out of 31 teams participating. A magnificent result for the day and with many first-time relay runners we look forward to more club runners joining us for the next relay challenge.
