Possible new training session. Would any members be interested in another weekly session? Joanne B has talked with good experience about how beneficial tempo running can be a part of a training programme. What are people’s thoughts? For anyone who is unsure what may be involved in tempo running I have copied this guide from Runners World’s website:
Tempo runs
Tempo runs help you improve your running economy and your running form. They are sometimes described as ‘threshold’ or ‘hard but controlled’ runs, and they will help you prepare for races of 10K to the marathon. Tempo sessions generally fall into one of two categories: steady runs of 2 to 6 miles; or long intervals with short recoveries. Here’s an example of the latter: 4 x 1 mile at tempo run pace with 2 minutes of recovery jogging between efforts. You should do tempo runs no more than once a week, and they should make up no more than 10 to 15 per cent of your total training.

Ponts at the Park Run
We are beginning to see a few club members include the Newcastle Park Run in their running schedule. To encourage as large a group as possible to at least try it out, we are targeting particular ones when we try to get a few there from the club. I suggest that the next of these is Saturday 3rd November. If new to Park Runs you will need a bar code but this is very easily obtained at www.parkrun.org.uk.
October half-term activity for the kids
Hi to all the Pont Runners
For any of our members who have kids aged 8-15 who like to keep active then this holiday activity at Gateshead Stadium might be of interest. It’s the StarTrack programme which my son has been on before and really enjoyed. Details are in the attached PDF which includes full details of how to enrol if they want to go for it.

New Website for Ponteland Runners
Hi All,
This is our new website. It is a move to a much more dynamic website that provides more content and integration with social media. The static website content is still available so new visitors can see the details on the club but the home page will now show blogs from authorised members and facebook and twitter updates.
Hopefully this will prove much more use to club members.
Cheers Chris ( with my webmaster hat on )
