Blaydon Race Entry

Gannin along the Scotswood Road on the 9th of June – what could be better fun than that?  Throw in the fact that this race forms part of the Ponteland Runners Club Championship and is only 5.7 miles in length and you have a race I hope many of us want to enter.  Entry is always oversubscribed and if you want to have a go then here follows a reminder on how to do it:

Online entry for the Blaydon Race will open next Monday (February 4th).  Online entry will be in four batches which will open at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm with 500 entries in each batch. These will fill. You will also be able to download the postal form on Monday.  In 2012, the 2000 limit for postal entries was reached in 3 days.

Visit the race website at: http://www.blaydonrace.co.uk/pages/entry.html  for more details.

In short, if you want to enter get in there as quick as you can a week today and I’ll see you on the start line.

2013 Club Championship

Ponteland Runners will have its own club championship this year. It is intended as a fun competition to encourage club members to take part in local races, with a handicap scoring system intended to give all of us a chance to do well. All members will receive an e-mail setting out the rules and the races covered by the competition. Please address any questions to ClubChampionship@pontelandrunners.org.uk or ask David Buffham or Jon Parkin, who will be collating results and scores. Good luck.

Full details can also be found on the Club Championship page of the website.

July Northumberland Coastal Run

Hi Everyone

One for the lovers of longer races this one but it’s an absolute cracker of a run.  It is virtually all run off-road in a combination of beach and coastal grassy paths – hopefully the finishing stretch isn’t run into a near gale force wind this year.  Just a quick heads up about entry if you want to run.  It is always very popular with local runners and entry usually goes within 12 hours or so of it opening online.  NE Races.com and the Alnwick Harriers website says online entry opens  at 1 minute passed midnight on Saturday 19th January so if you are planning to enter then you had best plan on a late night next Friday.  I’ll see you on the start line…

Simonside Cairns Fell Race December 9th 2012

The 17th running of this popular fell race took place in lovely weather recently. It’s a 11 mile route starting and finishing in the centre of Rothbury; in between is a hilly circuit around the Simonside ridge. The conditions underfoot on the tops were reminiscent of the Cramlington NE Harrier League meeting; wet, muddy with the odd tree route and rock thrown in. Our own Dave Legg had a steady run round finishing 64th out of 104 in 1:48.

As always it was a friendly, informal event with people gathering in the Newcastle Arms pub before and after the run, where delicious soup was served, all included in your bargain £5 entry fee, paid on the day.

Dave ran for his other club, Northumberland Fell Runners who have a great website with details of upcoming events

http://www.northumberlandfellrunners.co.uk/html/whats_on.html

In 2011 I joined Dave on this run and would highly recommend it.  A great experience.  Hopefully in 2013 we can encourage more to have a go at Fell Running.

Club Parkrun 22 December 2012

I’m currently fighting off a bad head cold but I am hoping to finish off the year with a Parkrun this Saturday (22/12/12). It’s always more fun with others and it’s a great chance to wear your club t-shirt/vest to promote Ponteland Runners. It’s free and every Saturday at 9am, Exhibition Park – a good 5k morning run! For more information and to sign up for your important barcode click here

Hope to be there and to see you there.Adam G
