Tony Blair Sports Foundation – Pass it on Campaign

Ponteland Runners are now a Gold Member of TBSF,  we have 8 LiRF qualified leaders thanks to both TBSF and England Athletics support. We have a featured article on TBSF website which is worth reading,  follow this link.

The TBSF “Pass it on Campaign” and Ponteland Runners article shows how the club has developed and “Passed it on in the community”.

We will continue to work with TBSF and England Athletics as the club continues to grow and develop in Ponteland.  The addition of LiRF Leaders in the club has been critical in our development.

Worth looking if only to see the photo of our Men’s Harrier League Team and the ladies from our Tuesday evening runs.

Simonside Cairns Fell Race December 9th 2012

The 17th running of this popular fell race took place in lovely weather recently. It’s a 11 mile route starting and finishing in the centre of Rothbury; in between is a hilly circuit around the Simonside ridge. The conditions underfoot on the tops were reminiscent of the Cramlington NE Harrier League meeting; wet, muddy with the odd tree route and rock thrown in. Our own Dave Legg had a steady run round finishing 64th out of 104 in 1:48.

As always it was a friendly, informal event with people gathering in the Newcastle Arms pub before and after the run, where delicious soup was served, all included in your bargain £5 entry fee, paid on the day.

Dave ran for his other club, Northumberland Fell Runners who have a great website with details of upcoming events

In 2011 I joined Dave on this run and would highly recommend it.  A great experience.  Hopefully in 2013 we can encourage more to have a go at Fell Running.

Keilder Duathlon – Sun 3rd Dec

Two Ponteland Runners, Paul Gerrard and Chris Heppell, took part in the Keilder Duathlon on a cold, very cold morning.  It was very clear on the drive up and the 4cm of snow should have warned us about conditions, upon arriving the temperature gauge in the car registered -5.5, even heading home mid-afternoon it was still well below freezing. 185 single competitors and 15 teams took part, with 167 completing the course.  Winning time was an incredible 2hr 02min from Harry Coates of Wallsend Harriers with the final finisher in 4hr 35min.  Paul completed in 3hr 9min in 95th place and Chris in 2hr 41min in 42nd place. Full results are available here. Looking at the transition times both have much to learn as they were extremely slow between disciplines.  Would highly recommend the experience to all as the views were stunning on a glorious day.  It’s fell running and mountain biking, mostly on snow and ice this year, but great fun. As with the Harrier League it adds more options to events out of season.

Benefits of Core Training

All,

We have a recent new member of Ponteland Runners called Joe Bell.  Joe is a Personal Trainer and runs multiple boot camp sessions each week.  His website shows the various sessions.  If you’d like to add something extra to your running core training certainly helps.

Fit Life Training provides all the details you’ll need.  I’ve also added a link to his website at the bottom of our homepage for future reference.  Joe is usually running with us on Monday’s and Friday’s so you can always have a chat during a club run if your interested.

Monday 08-10-2012 Training Session

Monday’s session will a 3 x 1km intervals, using Darras Road between Broadway and Eastern Way. It would be best if everyone has a stop watch with them to time their own 1km intervals.

We are going to warm up on an easy circuit of a mile through the village and then head onto Runnymede road for slightly increased run up to Moor Lane, those ahead to loop back so we all re-group at corner of Moor Land/Runnymede. Easy jog up Moor Lane to the start of the 1km.
First 1km interval which should be at 60% effort.
Recover up Runnymede road for the second pass at the 1km interval.
Second 1km interval at 75% effort.
Another recovery round runnymede.
Third 1km effort at 90%.
The timing should be faster than the first and second efforts, unless you tried too hard at the first & second efforts!!!
Then a very easy jog back through the village to the sports centre.

Total running distance is 7.6miles, we should be complete around 21:20.
